The Talent Asset

Smart business executives always look to build an asset. The pizza parlor owner makes money working 60 hours a week selling slices, but his landlord makes just about as much money in rent every month because he owns the asset of the building.

Assets build value in a business. In turn, biz execs invest in assets. These things can include real estate, proprietary formulas (like the recipe for Krispy Kreme doughnuts) or heavy machinery. One asset fast growing companies are looking to build is a loyal and talented workforce. You only need to look west to Silicon Valley to see how Google, Facebook and Yahoo! are acquiring small companies solely for their strong programming or design talent. And not for cheap.

Talent is an asset worth having, and its price tag continues to climb.
